Spring is making a ! The snow is finally starting to melt and the ice starting to come off of the lake which is a sure sign warmer days are on the horizon! Spring brings sunshine, blooming flowers and of course cleaning!

To prepare for the upcoming are some DIY spring cleaning tips to get your cottage summer-ready!

Dish Cleaning: Start with the kitchen, wipe all appliances with multipurpose liquid. Bring out the dishes and give them a good rinse. Dishes collect dust and often start smelling when they lie unused for too long. Choose a gentle cycle. Throw in the cutlery too. Look for unusual items like toothbrush holders, soiled beach toys, light-fixture globes and table fan rims to clean out any dust and debris.

Window-Cleaning: Windows and doors get stained with all that winter snow, leaving streaks and cloudy panes. Wipe off the streaks with a cloth.

Drapes and Lamp Shades: Curtains, , pillow covers, cushion covers and table cloths are best tossed in the dryer for 15 minutes to get rid of the musty . Select the “air-only” them up on a clothesline immediately to prevent wrinkles. This way they won’t need much ironing.

Clean Fur and Dander: It’s quite a task to remove pesky pet hair from all furniture and fabrics around you. Use a lint brush to make things easier. Don’t forget to put on rubber gloves or wear regular gloves, dampen them a bit so the fur sticks to the gloves instead of flying about and collect all that fuzz.

Clean Mattress: Don’t just clean what you see on the surface. There’s a whole dusty world beneath the sheets in your bedroom and upholstery. Bring out your vacuum cleaner and collect all the dust from underneath. Clean out the clogged vacuum cleaner too. Dust some baking powder on the mattress and let it stand for 15-20 minutes before vacuuming it off. The baking powder helps remove from the mattress.

Clean Kitchen Cabinets: The dust on kitchen cabinets settles down on the surface over the long winter months. makes it stick while grime adds another layer of grease. Use a “cabinet cream” to cut through the grease and leave a soft shine on the wood. Clean out the drawers and oil creaky hinges.

Clean the Bathroom: and grout collect in moist areas such as the bathrooms. Clean out the ridges between tiles, bathtubs, sinks and toilet bowls with an appropriate bathroom detergent. mix 50/50 vinegar/water solution to clean  the tile, counters and soap scum in the shower Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse. Finish off your spring cleaning with a trip to the recycling bin and second-hand store. Prep up your patio furniture, spray down dust on the tables and chairs with a garden hose and wipe dry.
